Shanna Wheelock

Shanna is a Maine native who serendipitously moved to Lubec fifteen years ago. Her 2D and 3D conceptual artwork investigates sense of place:
an honoring and connecting to the environment, culture, and history of community that has lived in Lubec for generations.

She connects to the residual energy in the ruins. The tree that was sacrificed for lumber, the hands that mixed concrete, and the experiences of the bodies that once filled the buildings tell a story of resonance between people and space.

The creative process, which includes many walks around former factory sites, is both methodical and meditative. On an inner level her work serves as a metaphor for her own spirited life journey.
